Holy cow, we’ve reached TEN assignments on Jeff Cutler dot com already. Keep up the good work. I’m especially impressed with the latest post from both Mike and Alan on assignment 8 and from Alan on assignment number 9. Good work.
For an upcoming assignment I want to give you all a long-form challenge like a column or a short story. So start thinking about that. For now, we remain fairly ‘quick-hit’.
Here’s today’s project…
In honor of the number ten, you should create a series of sentences (say 10?) that each have 10 words in them. You can write anything you want. You can make it advertising copy, a recounting of how your cat broke the egg cups, or even a story about the worst rainstorm you’ve ever been caught in. But every sentence has to have 10 words in it.
100 word limit (10×10).
Post your submission in the comments section. Mine will appear there shortly.
Have fun!

After speaking with a handful of you, we’re going to submit one assignment per week on Monday or Tuesdays.
Thanks again for all your participation. A new assignment will be out next week.
Keep writing.

Thanks to everyone who’s contributing and hopefully having some fun here. If you get a chance, let me know if once a week is too frequent or not frequent enough for new assignment postings. I’ve put this up only a few days after number 8 and I think I’m going to try and do a Tuesday/Friday schedule. If I miss, the worst that happens is that your new assignment shows up the following Tuesday.
For this writing assignment, please use the following words together in a paragraph. The paragraph can be about anything you want, but must use all six words.
Put your completed assignment into the comments at the bottom of this post, I’ll do the same.
The words are: rug, deposit, Tivo, lug-nut, sandwich, crumple.
*A poem does not constitute a paragraph for this project.
Tell your friends about Jeff Cutler dot com. I’m working with a writers’ organization to see if I can get some schwag to reward some of you for your participation and skill.
Keep writing.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I realized the other day that in just over a month we have expanded our readership 300% and have contributors from all over the universe. Keep up the good work and let me know if you’ve come across a writing exercise you’d like posted here on Jeff Cutler dot com.
Enough blathering. Here’s your next assignment…
Use in a sentence an obscure word that you’re pretty sure very few people have heard or know the meaning of. This can be local terminology, slang or just a smartie word that most people have to look up.
Please put down below your sentence (in parens) the meaning of the word as you understand it and any other relevant information.

I stumbled upon this via Ronin Marketeer (John Wall’s site on marketing and creative business practices)…so thanks to John for pointing people that way.
Here are some GREAT tips on writing and creating Websites that work. As writers, most of you readers can help rid the world of inanity by taking these tips to heart.
I know when I’m called in to write Website content I try to hold true to these tenets.
Keep writing AND keep thinking.

If you read all my blogs (not gonna list them here…too many to mention), then you’re sure to see the following site mentioned.
I stumbled across it the other day and realized it might be a helpful online destination for readers of Jeff Cutler dot com.
Here’s the link.
Enjoy!

So many Web sites these days have convoluted, almost full-sentence names. Today’s assignment is to create three domain names you’d LOVE to have.
The catch is that the domain names must have successively longer, but still easy to remember, names.
The example I’ll give is one of my other blogs, thingstoworryabout.com. It’s clunky but memorable and the name is accurate.
So here are the specifics:
Create one domain name with four words, then one with five, then one with six. For each, put down the name and then underneath tell us what the site would do (unless the name makes it blatantly obvious – which it should).
Post your assignment in the comments section below. My submission will be there shortly.

I know you’re reading this (that’s the beauty of stat counters on the Internet) and encourage you to take part in all the Jeff Cutler dot com writing assignments.
But even if all you do is lurk and enjoy the writing of others, thanks for stopping by.
As you can see, we have a handful of core contributors and we’ve gotten our schedule of new assignment releases to a pretty consistent once a week. I’ll try to keep that pattern up unless people feel it’s too hard.
To that end, I KNOW the mystery assignment was a tougher and more time-intensive project. I’ll keep those to a minimum, but it is good to stretch on length from time to time.
Thanks again for reading AND writing!

Is the weather changing where you are? Think about your climate and your surroundings.
Now describe one facet of your environment. You cannot use the words VERY, UNBELIEVABLE, SURREAL or PLEASANT.
Word count for this assignment is 100. Put your completed description in the comments section below. Mine will appear there shortly.
