The sky presents a blue facade that’s crisp and vast. Home for clouds and birds and the occasional plane, the sky envelops us in a cushion. Even when cold, it’s still an agreeable chill because it’s more understood in composition than the inky elements beyond. The sky is a trusted and welcome guardian in my world.

The weather here in London is bloody miserable. It was previously scorching hot – but only for an hour or so back in August. Oh how I pine for that hour to return. Now, the grey skies loom overhead, promising rain and never failing to deliver. Why oh why did I ever leave Australia, land of sunshine and deadly creatures, to come to this small island in the middle of inclement weather cycles?

The trees of autumn remind me
    How barren life has become
With thoughts of spring inside me
    Knowing it will never come

  4. Clownface says:

    The rust of autumn
    Begs me to sit down.
Like the wheels on a child’s wagon,
left out during too many summer rain storms,
I’m forced to stop moving. To be still.
Beneath the cover of a turtleneck sweater,
like a cloak of dry leaves protecting my trunk,
I watch the world shut down,
preparing for the quiet resting time.
