I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Now it’s time to get back to the typewriter.
Today, keep thinking about leftover turkey and other foods and then write a poem in any format about food you love to eat during the holidays. Yes, it’s a free-form assignment but I figure you can treat this as your first of many holiday gifts.
Put your completed assignment in the comments field. Mine will be there shortly.
Keep writing.

Turkey pot,
Turkey pot,
Turkey pot pie.
What would be better when the holidays are nigh?
A breeze in the oven, a treat for the palate.
Turkey pot pie is also soft on the wallet.
So what will you chomp on when you’re feeling peckish?
An eighty-pound bird that dirties a mountain of dishes?
Or a convenient turkey pot pie that is downright delicious?
An ode to my mother’s stuffing
Celery and white bread
Two boring foods
What I can’t get into my head
Is how mom makes them good
No sausage or raisins
Just onions and broth
Her stuffing is a haven
To which I am drawn like a moth
Moist, soppy and brown
Frosted with gravy
Mom never lets me down
Her stuffing leaves me cravy.
