Assignment 18

Many authors – and writers (on a tangential matter, there are many more writers than authors so I felt trapped when I started my sentence with the word authors…won’t happen again) – describe scenes using color for mood.

For today’s assignment, I’d like you to use color in a description. It can be an actual, literal description of an item or you can use your color(s) to paint a scene with mood. Or surprise us with another way to use color in a description.

All we need are a few sentences. Enjoy!

My submission will be in the comment field shortly and that’s where you should share yours.

Keep writing!

  1. jeff says:

Black leather. It’s got an elemental quality.

Put it in the sun—as with a luxury car seat or a recliner poised by a picture window—and the result is frying-pan heat on your backside.

But slip onto its surface while wearing shorts, in an air-conditioned room, and you’ll feel the cold, inky blackness sucking the heat from your flesh.

Black leather. Which version will you get?
