Eve 6 and music in general. Emotions abound.

December 4, 2008

I’m not a music guy. I’m also not a foodie, but that’s a column about marshmallows, Chef Boy-R-Dee and Atomic Warheads for another day.

My musical ineptness rivals the pure genius that CC Chapman exhibits regularly in his Accident Hash podcast or that Jonathan Coulton throws down at impromptu get-togethers in the suburbs of New York.

The reason I bring this up is because I’m a slave to the iPhone and have found a new use for this marvelous gadget. Today, while dining with my gorgeous girlfriend at a local restaurant, I heard a song on the speakers in the bar. I knew that I liked the beat and the music seemed to get my feet moving in an unfamiliar way.

So I poked around on the iPhone and pulled up the Shazam application. Shazam allows you to hold the iPhone up to any music. If that music is clear enough (it wouldn’t work when I tried to sing happy birthday into it) and long enough – needs about ten seconds or more – then it can locate the band and the track from the marvel that is the Internet.

The song Inside Out from Eve 6 was the song on the speakers in the bar and now I own it because I was able to figure out, using technology, what the song was.

That’s $.99 for Apple, a smile for me, and an annoying headache for clownface because all I’m doing for the next few hours is playing that song back to back to back to back to back to back because I love it love it love it.

That’s one man’s tale. Do you have a music experience to share? Use small words and leave it here in the comments.

More to come…
