Review: Taste Boston Event – at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston

November 12, 2012

Fine food, well-heeled and dressed attendees, generous donors and lots of style. That’s what Boston Magazine’s 3rd annual Taste event was like Monday at the Mandarin Oriental. While they billed it as the “ultimate culinary celebration”, I just thought it was a lot of good food, fun visuals and a chance to support a good cause.

On the subject of good causes, a portion of the proceeds from the eventing were earmarked for the Greater Boston Food Bank. And the restauranteurs didn’t disappoint. According to Boston Magazine, the evening’s stars included…

“Chefs from 18 participating restaurants, including: 80 Thoreau, Alma Nove, Artisan Bistro, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, Ducali, il Casale Cucina Italiana, Journeyman, L’Espalier, Local 149, Mandarin Oriental, Neptune Oyster, Post 390, Sel de la Terre, Shanti, Smith & Wollensky, Trade, Tremont 647 and Tres Gatos.”

While I hesitate to pick clear winners from all the food I tasted, my favorites came from Tres Gatos, 80 Thoreau, Asana and Artisan Bistro. As you can see from the photos in the gallery, their dishes looked great as well. That said, I’d love to get a chance to do a full review of any of these restaurants to give you readers a better picture of what they can do when you visit their locations. I’ll be working on that in the next few months…stay tuned.

Here are the photos… If you’d like to see the high-res versions or download a copy of any of these shots – with attribution of course, they are posted in a set on my Flickr page.
