Super Bowl – the cease and desist version – 2013

Lots of people are making a big deal about the non-use of the words Super and Bowl together. In fact, radio stations persist in calling the Super Bowl the “Big Game” and other outlets are doing the same thing. In fact, myriad articles have been written on who can and can’t use the name Super Bowl in referring to the big game.

I wonder if it’s OK for my local pub to persist in calling their Super Bowl squares “Super Bowl squares”. Maybe the NFL will rush down to the restaurant and deliver a beat-down to the next bartender that sells a “Super Bowl” square.

I wanted to – in the interest of fair use and investigative journalism – find out how many times I could write Super Bowl in a post before I got an email from the lawyers that represent the trademark holders. So, here are 100 times of me writing the term. I’ll do a follow-up post on any action this results in.
